Fear that is wise. by Deon Crafford

Psalms 25:12-14. Who is the man who fears the Lord? Him will he instruct in the way that he should choose. His soul shall abide in well-being,and his offspring shall inherit the land. The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him,and he makes known to them his covenant.

I believe fear is the most primary of human emotions. There is not a soul reading this today that is not vulnerable to fear. Even those of us strongest in faith, would have to admit that we fall into the grip of fear. Fear is the marketing tool of some of the worlds greatest financial industries. This fear however is what I would call first order fear – it is all about whether I am going to make it to the end in comfort. But as believers there is second order fear, which is not about protecting myself, but humbling myself. If I dwell in first order fear I dumb down to victim. If I dwell in second order fear – based on coming into the presence of the Lord – I wise up to victor. In the fear of the Lord Jesus, I don’t cower in expectation of hurt or destruction, but I stand in jaw-dropping awe of being drawn into the presence of His Indescribable Greatness. Fear of the Lord rightsizes me in how small and insignificant God found me, but how great and important I am for Him. It is so overpowering that fear is the only emotion I can have. It is almost as though my fear is “this cannot possibly be true” and yet it is. Imagine life, more so, imagine love, if I am able to constantly dwell in the fear of the Lord.

Love to all
