Non-covenantal conduct by Deon Crafford

Romans 1:24-25 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

It is often difficult for people to listen or talk about sexual intimacy in the context of our faith. Why would it be? Surely it is a gift from God to those in a covenant relationship to avail themselves fully to each other, and from whence creation springs forth. The difficulty comes from the fact that sexual intimacy has been so deeply corrupted by the lust and instinctive desire of mankind, that its divine beauty has literally been suffocated. Lust is a selfish and uncontained desire for something that gives immediate and short term pleasure or benefits. It is not based on any intent to establish a covenant relationship – wherein both parties commit to giving as much as receiving. Lust is rooted in the deepest of selfishness, and ultimately in the highest potential of abuse – whether sexual lust, the lust for power, or any other selfish desire. And if read like this we would be brought closer to the fact that we may all be vulnerable if not already infected by lust. Selfish desire is all that it takes. The counter to this is to focus on the covenant relationship Jesus invited us into when He gave Himself completely so we would have Life. If I keep living in this covenant, I will keep seeding my world with covenant relationships, where giving comes before receiving.

Love to all
