Salt by Deon Crafford

Matthew 5:13 “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is in no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet.

Matthew 9:12-13But when he heard it, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 13 Go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”

You are the salt of the earth, not you will become the salt of the earth. How did that happen? Well first we did not become salt by own accord – it is because of Jesus that we may have the qualities of salt. It is because of His qualities of preservation and disinfection that He can affirm us with these qualities.

Jesus descended from heaven in the name of preservation – to come and cover God’s relationship with us in his redemptive blood, so that we will forever be adopted into the House of God. The Son of God became the agent of preservation – without Whom we would have had a meaningless, fickle and anxious existence into nothingness. Imagine having no Vision of eternity in today’s world …. every hour, minute and second would have been filled with the angst of just surviving. But when Jesus “salts” us, the reality that unfolds before us releases the grip of anxiety and showers us in freedom and freshness. Now we know that we will see and forever be in the presence of God.

Jesus also says that He came for the sick and the sinner. He came to be a disinfectant in a world that had sunk into a cesspit of vulgarity, corruption and disease. He did not come to cherry-pick the good and righteous people, but to dwell with and infuse the sinner’s heart with the reality of his/her condition and lead them to a new Life. He came to wash our septic sores of sin with His pure healing blood. That is why we can be in relationship with God – we’re confirmed cleansed, sanitised and disease-free.

And then He mandates us to follow His example. You are the salt, live Christ into all relationships and declare the blood of Christ over all sin and disease. He warns us to not lose our saltiness, to change the world through our Christ infused presence and conduct, and not have the world contaminate our effectiveness. It is not an easy call, but it comes from Him who will always go with us.

Love to all
