Neutrality is partiality by Deon Crafford

Matthew 27:22-25 Pilate said to them, “Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” They all said, “Let him be crucified!” And he said, “Why? What evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Let him be crucified!” So when Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this man’s blood; see to it yourselves.” And all the people answered, “His blood be on us and on our children!”

There is a commonly quoted saying which broadly states that for evil to triumph, it needs good men and women to do nothing. Whoever first said this must have been frustrated by seeing people he/she thought virtuous and strong, turn a blind eye to corruption and other evil doings. If you want a modern version of this, then just see how our esteemed business leaders keep pandering to a corrupt and inept government. Our society today will not take sides, or so it thinks. But the blind eye casts judgement, whether it wishes to or not. So too with Pontius Pilate. Although he was convinced of Jesus’ innocence, fear governed his decision to “wash his hands” and disclaim accountability. If we take a neutral position to Jesus today, if we fear the cancel culture or offending someone else’s sense of inclusivity and rather shut up, we’re not being neutral at all, but we’re against Jesus. Even though Jesus will never be crucified again, we will be reminded that what we do is no different than that spineless Roman governor who feared loud revolution mongers. Let’s make it clear Who we entrust our futures to.

Love to all
