Your crossing by Deon Crafford

Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

When God addresses Joshua, he does it to a troubled man – a man caught off guard by the passing of Moses and being put into the position of leadership. Joshua was a blindly loyal servant to Moses, never expecting or positioning to fill his shoes. But God has a different plan for Joshua. He may not be charismatic and prophetic, but he is obedient, loyal and humble – and these will be the foundations of his leadership. One can quite imagine how emotionally drained and paralysed Joshua must be when he realises what God is calling him to. And yet God charges him to lead, but also promises him that He will never be alone. We’ve all been there and some are there right now. At our river crossing into the unknown, we may be anxious, reluctant and holding on to what was. And yet God has a plan with each one of us. God did not place us here to passively live out our days. He commands us to walk boldly into the new, knowing that He will give us the places where our feet shall tread. I can imagine God being excited about the impact we’re going to have once we cross over our river. There is so much potential in each one of us that He would love to see realised. We may frustratingly long for clarity, certainty, signs, perhaps even miracles, but these may evade us for now. But we have certainty and clarity that who God calls or commands He also equips. When we cross our river in faith, we bestow great honour on our God. Let it then be so that the boldness with which we do this, be a testimony to His greatness that we have seen manifested so many times before in our lives. So take the next step.

Love to all
